Trimble Transportation CTO Timothy Leonard recently joined a panel of leading technology companies to discuss the “Future of Transportation” at Morgan Stanley’s Canadian Emerging Tech Conference. Leonard was joined by Andrew Macdonald, vice president and regional general manager of Asia-Pacific at Uber, and Colin Sutherland, EVP of sales and marketing at Geotab, a telematics company.

Imagine that one of the trucks in your fleet has surpassed 100,000 miles. It undergoes the regular 100,000-mile maintenance test and a few parts were replaced due to normal wear and tear, but otherwise, everything seems fine. Then, a few weeks later, you get a call that the truck is broken down on the side of the highway, far away from the nearest town.

In a speech addressing Congress on May 8, Douglas Maughan urged the US to lead the way on blockchain development by calling it the “technology of the future.” As the Division Director of Science and Technology for the US Department of Homeland Security, Maughan met with the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology to highlight the benefits of blockchain in business applications--particularly in shipping, logistics and customs--with an emphasis on supply chain management.
